This video below does an excellent job of walking parents/guardians through the steps of signing up for Google Classroom notifications for your student(s).

Note: If you would like to sign up for notification and have not received an email invite from your child's teacher-email them and ask them to invite you as a parent/guardian for their classroom.   This is only for daily or weekly notifications-the only way to fully access your child's Google Classroom is to log in with their account information.

2016 National Education Technology Plan Released

1/7/2016

Recently, the National Educational Technology Office released its National Education Technology Plan for all school districts in the United States. We are happy to report that Nordonia Hills City Schools is right on track with the four main goals within the plan and through initiatives such as our one to one with Chromebook program--we are continuing to lead the way by creating more equitable access to technology tools within education as well as higher level content through our professional development implementation programs.

From the site: http://tech.ed.gov/netp/
"As part of this program, they have released their plan titled Future Ready Learning: Reimagining the Role of Technology in Education, articulates a vision of equity, active use, and collaborative leadership to make everywhere, all-the-time learning possible. While acknowledging the continuing need to provide greater equity of access to technology itself, the plan goes further to call upon all involved in American education to ensure equity of access to transformational learning experiences enabled by technology. The principles and examples provided in this document align to the Activities to Support the Effective Use of Technology (Title IV A) of Every Student Succeeds Act as authorized by Congress in December 2015."

The essential components of an infrastructure capable of supporting transformational learning experiences include the following:
  • Ubiquitous connectivity. Persistent access to high-speed Internet in and out of school
  • Powerful learning devices. Access to mobile devices that connect learners and educators to the vast resources of the Internet and facilitate communication and collaboration
  • High-quality digital learning content. Digital learning content and tools that can be used to design and deliver engaging and relevant learning experiences
  • Responsible Use Policies (RUPs). Guidelines to safeguard students and ensure that the infrastructure is used to support learning

Our High School Physical Education Department Utilizes Google Classroom

11/8/2015

Picture
Physical Education teachers Mr. Scott Barwidi, Mr. Ranzy Lardell, and Mrs. Amie Cormell work with Angela on a recent inservice day to create Google Classrooms for each of their classes.

On our recent 11/3 Inservice Day the Nordonia HS teachers approached Angela with a few questions regarding how to add more educational technology in their classroom, which happens to be the high school gymnasium. Angela responded with four words. "Let's try Google Classroom!" A little leery, they agreed. They grabbed their laptops and worked with her for about an hour to set up their Google Classroom as well as create a shared folder in their Google Drive account where they can share materials with one another like never before. With PE classes requiring more standards involving research and charting individual student data, using Google Classroom and Drive just makes sense to streamline that content within their courses. Also, when the teachers attend out-of-district professional development as a team in the coming weeks, students will be able to work on an online project in class and submit their work within the GClassroom. All three teachers walked out of the IMC with excitement and eagerness (and a sigh of relief because it wasn't scary at all).

This is another example of how taking time to learn new tools can really benefit teachers and the end result is more instruction, even when teachers are not physically in the building. Also-another thought. Why not make a Google Classroom for your athletic team? Post stats, important information, schedules, and interact with your players like never before! Never stop learning, Nordonia!
